Light the Night

Tuesday marks a month since my nephew was beaten at a Halloween party. A month since he last took a breath on his own. A month since brave teenagers performed CPR on him. A month since our family got the call that would change our lives forever.

It’s also been a month since a group of boys decided to beat my nephew, leave my nephew in the road and go home like nothing happened. One month that parents of these boys have chosen to live a life of silence while my family is living a real life nightmare.

It has been a month that we have been shown the real meaning of community. A month of humanity reminding us that just because there are a handful of assholes, people are still good. A month of so much love showered upon our family. And a month of gratitude for those walking beside us and holding us up in this devastation.

One month with no answers. One month with lots of questions and one month of grief.

It has been the longest month of my life and it’s time to start demanding #justice4prestonlord

Please share in your networks:

Tuesday, November 28, 2023, marks one month since several teenage boys brutally attacked Preston Lord leading to the loss of his young, vibrant, and precious life.

Unfortunately, the assailants have not come forward to stand in their truth and to take responsibility for their actions. No arrests have been made as of today.

As a community we will be walking Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as we LIGHT THE NIGHT to honor Preston, condemn this act of violence and those attacks prior to Preston, and to ensure that local law enforcement and the FBI knows we as parents and community support their thorough investigation.

There's a saying I use often that says: "The truth has legs, and when everything else in the room blows up and dissolves away it still stands--so it's always best to start there."

To those who did this, this town will not stand for cowardice nor violence.

Come forward and give our student community and the Lord family a path to healing and peace that they so deserve.

Walk details:

6 p.m. start

Meet at ALA Queen Creek. We will walk north on Hawes to Ocotillo and end at Queen Creek Police Department.

This is a 2.1 mile walk.

Join us at any point wearing comfy shoes, reflective gear, ORANGE shirts, glow necklaces/flashlights.
